Project Name: Meadowbrook Marsh
With paving and sealcoating completed, Meadowbrook Marsh is finally “done” after more than 20 years of planning and project management, said Danbury Township Board of Trustees Chair Dianne Rozak.
The completion of the parking area along with additional paving of the ADA sector was very much needed. The sealcoating on every paved trail made a tremendous difference giving them a brand-new look.
Along with sealcoating, some uneven connecting areas were corrected by the contractor including additional minor paving work over stone drainage areas.
Meadowbrook Marsh is a heavily trafficked year-round park. While it is over-full during birding season, visitation continues steadily throughout the year with regular daily and weekly guests.
Through the assistance of very generous Park District of Ottawa County grants, the Township has been able to tout Meadowbrook as a premier nature preserve. Danbury Township has one more permanent natural trail to construct at the northeast corner of the park (with permission already having been received from Black Swamp Conservancy who holds a conservation easement). Beyond that, Danbury Township and Black Swamp Conservancy agree there are sufficient paved trails to allow for ample public access while maintaining a strong wildlife habitat. Danbury Trustees will continue to allow placement of benches along with controlled burn management to continue the re-establishment of native prairie
grasses.
