Project Name: Basketball Courts
The Village of Genoa has taken a major step in revitalizing its recreational facilities by completely reconstructing its two public basketball courts. Thanks to the Park District of Ottawa County’s Parks & Trails Improvement Grant, which provided $44,890 in funding, the Village was able to demolish and repave the aging courts, bringing new life to the community space.
The upgraded courts now feature 72-inch acrylic backboards—some of the highest-quality equipment available for outdoor play. These professional-grade installations offer an improved experience for players of all ages and skill levels.
Beyond the fresh pavement and modern equipment, this project carries a larger significance for the area. The newly finished courts are now the only full-length basketball courts in western Ottawa County, establishing the park as a regional hub for pickup games enjoyed by Genoa residents and numerous visitors to the Genoa Quarry.
Village officials and residents alike have praised the transformation, viewing it as a strong investment in community health, youth engagement, and recreational access. The grant reflects a broader commitment by the Park District of Ottawa County to improve public spaces and promote active lifestyles throughout the region.
With the renovation now complete, the Village of Genoa invites basketball enthusiasts from around the area to visit the park and enjoy the newly restored courts—an exciting symbol of progress, community spirit, and the power of public funding in small-town development.
