Grants

Project Name: Playground Improvements

Project Location: Village of Clay Center

The Village of Clay Center was awarded a Parks and Trails Improvement Grant in the amount of $7,000.00 to upgrade equipment at the Village Park. The Village itself was responsible for just over $2,000.00 and labor was donated by Mayor Mel Sprauer, Street Commissioner Brian Meyers and Village residents Chris Sizemore and Ron Cousino. The grant was applied for by Fiscal Officer Bill Scott and resident Chelsea Reamsnyder.

Clay Center Park takes up a large part of land located just off Susan Street and is home to Genoa Area Rec soccer in the spring and fall. The Village pavilion plays host to graduation parties, birthday parties, family reunions and all sorts of activities. It is available on a first-come, first-serve basis, free to residents. The Clay Center Events Committee hosts several events at the park throughout the year.

The Village used the awarded funds to purchase three new bench swings and an eight-bay swing set. The Village has had the same swing set for quite some time and the residents were very happy to have a swing set large enough for eight children at a time. The bench swings make a great addition for those looking to rest while walking the trail, watch their children playing, sit by the pavilion and visit, or just sit and enjoy the scenery. The Village is grateful for the financial support from the Park District of Ottawa County.
