Project Name: Storywalk Trail

Project Location: Veterans Memorial Park in the Village of Genoa

The Harris-Elmore Public Library’s Genoa Branch completed construction of a Storywalk Trail on August 18, 2025. The Storywalk consists of 15 standing markers that display children’s book pages and fun activities that relate to the story.

Storywalks are an innovative and delightful way for children 4 and adults! 4 to enjoy reading and the outdoors at the same time. Laminated pages from a children's book are inserted into a covered display marker, which are installed along an outdoor path. As you stroll down the trail, you're directed to the next page in the story. There are many benefits to a Storywalk, including early literacy opportunities for young children, family teaching moments, and exercise/collaboration with the community.

The Storywalk begins at the Big Dipper entrance to Veterans Memorial Park, and ends at the new playground near the baseball diamonds. The Village of Genoa maintenance team put up the markers with concrete bases.

The Storywalk will be changed monthly to reflect new stories and activities. The first book displayed is <Ricky, the Rock that Couldn’t Roll> by Mr. Jay. Click on button below to learn more and keep up with updates regarding the Storywalk Trail.
