Islander Woods and Trailhead

3655 NW Catawba Rd., Port Clinton, OH 43452

Once owned by the same family for more than 50 years, this peaceful 7.6-acre wooded park and pond pays homage to the late Robert Royce Johnson, an avid hobby orchardist who purchased the land in 1975. Together with his family, Robert, more commonly known as “Bob,” enjoyed many idyllic Catawba summers here with his wife and children, and cultivated numerous heritage apple trees on this property. The Park District of Ottawa County acquired the property in March of 2024 and granted the family naming rights to the pond for the contributions they made to the acquisition project. “Bob’s Pond” is a vibrant showcase of wooded wetland flora and fauna.

Islander Woods and Trailhead is the Park District’s debut park, and features a boardwalk loop trail surrounding Bob’s Pond, a nature play area, interpretive signage, picnic tables, a drinking fountain and a water bottle refill station, a portable restroom, and parking lot. A wildlife

observation deck will be installed soon.
